“Oracle Application Server Mapviewer makes it possible for the general public to perform personalized geographical searches and receive targeted and easy-to-download reports. Before they only had access to more general reports that were generated by the department in Microsoft Excel.”

Belgium Department of Work and Social Economy Offers Easy Online Access to Employment Data

The Flemish government’s Department of Work and Social Economy prepares the nation’s policies on work and social economy. It also controls the enforcement of these policies through regular field inspections. In addition the department monitors the employment market and evaluates the execution of its policies.

Challenges

  • Control the quality of data that the department receives from multiple internal and external sources and collect the optimized data in a single data warehouse used to monitor major employment trends in Flanders
  • Improve the user experience by changing the output from standard Microsoft Excel files to a more visual and interactive interface
  • Disclose all Flemish employment data to the general public through a new online reporting environment that allows personalized searches and the ad-hoc creation of personalized and easy-to-download reports

Solution

  • Achieved a more visual and interactive interface through the use of Oracle Application Server Mapviewer, which enables the use of color-coded maps and geographical reporting on an interactive dashboard. This lets users navigate faster and find targeted data more easily.
  • Created an integrated reporting environment that lets the general public access employment data through an online portal and makes it possible to create and download their own personalized reports
  • Enabled more accurate monitoring of employment trends, since all data is automatically optimized and collected in a single warehouse, from which users can combine data and pull automatic reports.
